In order to showcase the uniqueness of your products, you can define your product attributes depending on your product's characteristics.
In this article, you will learn about
What is an attribute
An attribute is any additional information (detail) about a product that needs to be displayed for the consumers or for internal usage.
A product typically can have the following attributes. Though we have specific built-in attributes in our platform as well.
- Size
- Color
- Name
- Description
- SKU
Built-in attributes
We have identified the key elements for most products that are being created in our system, so we designed a smoother product creation process by providing the basic attributes that are most likely going to be used.
Name | Name of the product |
SKU | Stock Keeping Unit |
Slug | The part of the URL that uniquely identifies a page |
Tax class | General tax class of the product |
Price | The price of your product |
You will find these fields under the products menu by default once you have added a product.
Attribute roles
Purpose
The reason why we have separate attribute roles is that the platform relies on this information when it comes to displaying the details on your product page.
This simply means that whenever you create your own attributes, you will need to define a role, to tell the system what will be the function of your attribute.
In practice
You are operating a store in Denmark and you name a special attribute in Danish. The system still needs to understand what is the intention of the attribute, so it could be shown in the designed place in your storefront.

Attribute Settings
Internal name: the name of the attribute within your account.
Title: the public name of the attribute. This is what can be displayed in your store in multiple languages.
Need Translation: by enabling the translation need, your multi-language product attribute fields will remain empty. By disabling the option, the values will be copied for all languages.
Swatch: the option to display a small sample which can be a color or a picture related to the attribute.
Role of the attribute: no matter how you name your attribute, the platform identifies it based on its role. Therefore any attribute that is intended to be publicly visible, needs to have a role. Based on its role it will appear in the selected Theme.
Visible in product filter: you can define if you want the given attribute to be found in searches. For example, a description is not an ideal filter, but the size and color is.
Visible for end-users: in case you would like to set internal attributes to your product family that should not be displayed on your storefront, you can switch off the visibility for end-users.
